The Musical Journey of John Bayless!
“If you want to treat yourself to an amazing journey, One Hand, One Heart – My Life, My Music by John Bayless, this book is for you:) John makes you feel like you are sitting in a comfortable room, talking with John about his life journey! The warmth and visual conversation he creates takes you through the various times of his life – starting at the age of 4, as a Mozart prodigy and experiencing the tremendous highs and lows of a musician’s rollercoaster. You’ll visualize him as a child and teenager, hearing melodies he can play by ear and the church organist who gave him the desire to love playing with expression, especially in church. Throughout his youth, his struggles with health issues kept John from having a “normal” childhood, his music became his teammates. Finally, doors opened to him in Aspen, CO to meet Adele Marcus, a Juilliard professor. Identifying his special gifts, she said, “you’re not a pianist, you’re a composer.” John was possibly the first cross-over composer to combine classical/contemporary music. Adele was his entree’ into Juilliard and the New York City performing life. His stories take you through his 12-year relationship with Leonard Bernstein – mentor and father figure – and the music elite of the City and the World. You feel the unfolding of Europe’s love for John in all his concerts, from London to Italy to Budapest, and sharing this with his lifelong love and husband, Bruce Franchini, who “instantly became a source of inspiration and nourishment in his life.” This book takes you on John’s spiritual journey from Southern Baptist to his eventual conversion to Judaism. You’ll feel the depth of his walk with God, through his stroke, “wondering why,” then the rebirth of his gift of music going way beyond the “glory years” of an international performer. You can’t put the book down as you live from experience through experience. John will inspire you to know you are not alone in this journey called life. You each have gifts that make a difference. John helps you believe”
